Dreadmire – Alternate 1st adventure

(This one's interesting. I only have a vague memory of it. I think I actually ran this at a Game Day we had at our place of employment. It wasn't part of the regular campaign, I know that much.)

Dreadmire Campaign

D&D 4.0

August 16, 2008

Begin – the gnome sets them down in the Dreadmire swamp. After awhile, they come across a battlefield.

1a. Battle scene – twelve dead pirates, thoroughly scavenged by critters. DC 18 – they are sailors. DC 20 – they are offworlders. DC 22 – they killed each other…although some similarly armed combatants may have survived. DC 25 track – find the track of Tree.

1b. Find the pirate captain Aloysius Tree of the Skuttlebutt, taken over from the late dread pirate Quee Quai Queg.

Aloysius Tree – use 3rd level Warlord

His bodyguard Steve – use 1st level fighter

He will tell them that they’d been fighting evile cannibals, and had just escaped with their lives. He’s after the treasure of Quee Quai Queg, and if they come along, he’s willing to give them a share, seeing as how the number of shares has just been seriously depleted. “Better to have ye along and give up some of what we’ve worked so hard for, than to die and never see any of it at all!”

He has a treasure map – more like directions, written in an arcane cipher (DC 20 Arcane check to understand)

  1. Fey Circle

How to get in? The growth seems to move and grow if hacked at (this summons the bogies, too)

DC 18 Arcana – realize the map contains a ritual to open

DC 20 Dungeoneering or Nature – to find the muskrat hole (to NW)

3a. Outer Glen

NE – destroyed shroom (this is the way the C’ai Shen folk came)

NW – flytrap (p135) looks like gold inside

SW – Bub Bub Tree, Leaf Bludger (100), roach swarm

SE – blood oranges 1d10 healing; muskrat

3b. Bogies

Initiative +6

HP 45    Bloodied 22

AC 18    Fort 15   Refl 16   Will 15

Speed 15

Powers

Electrical Aura - 1d6 damage to any who strike in melee

Zap – 1d6+3 damage; +10 vs. Reflex

Fly-by attack - feat

  1. Inner Glen

Chaak Si, of House Yan is there to retrieve her uncle’s treasure

Chaak Si – 3rd level Wizard

Bernard – 1st level Paladin

Treasure is under a smallish tree, glowing with an incandescent shine. (Source of power for the bogies – if the tree is destroyed, they’ll vanish – otherwise they keep regenerating.)

Under the tree is a leather bag, containing a bag of coins (500gp worth of pp and gp and gems). Also, a wand of plant growth – this is what Chaak Si is here to recover.
