Basic stuff for the upcoming campaign
Generating Ability Scores
You can use a standard array: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8, and assign them to whichever ability you wish.
Or, you can use a point buy system, which is described in D&D Beyond: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/step-by-step-characters#3DetermineAbilityScores
If you really want to roll dice for you character abilities, you can do that during our "session zero" in front of everybody so we can all be amused.
Available Classes
Pretty much the standard list:
- Barbarian
- Bard
- Cleric
- Druid
- Fighter
- Monk
- Paladin
- Ranger
- Rogue
- Sorcerer
- Warlock
- Wizard
If you want to play something not on this list, let me know.
Available Species
Following is the "base" list of available species. If you want to play something not on this list, run it past me first. This is not to discourage you in the least from playing something not on this list.
- Dwarf
- Gnome
- Half-Elf
- Half-Orc
- Halfling
- Human
The following species are perfectly fine to play, but I will want to work with you to develop your background history and so forth. In parentheses are some starter ideas you can use or ignore.
- Aasimar (At least one recent ancestor was a traveler from the Outer Planes on a mission -- does that mission affect you?)
- Autognome (I can't help but think of the Twiki character from the Buck Rogers series in reference to Autognomes.)
- Dragonborn (Just wanted to note that Solar and Lunar dragons are new to this setting, so you may want to incorporate one of those into your background.)
- Elf (Regular Elves are around, but there are also Astral Elves which are new to the setting.)
- Giff (Hippopotamus-headed creatures -- they showed up in previous editions of D&D but in this setting they're a playable species -- stereotypically, these guys act like working-class soldiers, but feel free to change it up a bit.)
- Hadozee (The same thing as a Yazirian from the TSR Star Frontiers game way back when, so feel free to grab ideas from there if you've got access to that material.)
- Plasmoids (Almost the same thing as a Dralasite from the TSR Star Frontiers game, although they seem a bit more "Human" in this setting. They left out the bit about Dralasites loving puns and bad jokes in the setting text, but I am totally adding that to the campaign.)
- Thri-kreen (Seem to take the place of the insectoid Vrusk from Star Frontiers. Again, feel free to grab ideas from there if you've got access to that material.)
- Tiefling (Like the Aasimar, you are the result of a messenger or envoy from the Outer Planes getting a little sidetracked. Does your ancestor's mission affect you?)
Other species? If you want to run something not mentioned above, let me know!
